In the Library of the Van Abbemuseum, Liam Gillick and Edgar Schmitz installed a multifunctional banner/projection screen. Two banners outside the museum carry the same text as the library but reversed and inverted. It is only through entry to the museum that the text becomes clear. The banner in the library is additionally a screen for the projection of a list of movies that may have to do with learning as encounters and forms of contact. The films include Pier Paolo Pasolini: Teorema (1968)/ Andy Warhol: My Hustler (1965)/ Jean-Luc Godard: Prénom Carmen (1983)/ Paul Morrissey: Madame Wang's (1981)/ Rainer Werner Fassbinder: Chinesisches Roulette (1976). These films will play during the opening hours of the Library. The work is further supplemented by a series of bookmarks, a functional echo of the larger work, that can be kept and used.
